Why Memorial Day Has Always Meant Something Deeper to Me

by Chef Stefano, CEO & Co-Founder of MightyMeals

Memorial Day has never felt like just another long weekend to me.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to appreciate more deeply what this day actually represents—and the sacrifices behind the freedoms and opportunities so many of us experience every day.

The Opportunities My Family Was Given

Both of my parents are immigrants.

Like so many families before them, they came to America with the hope of building a better life through hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance.

Growing up, I saw firsthand what this country can make possible for people who are willing to work for it. Opportunities that simply wouldn’t have existed elsewhere.

That perspective has stayed with me throughout my life and throughout building MightyMeals.

Reflecting on Freedom

The older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve realized something important:

The freedoms and opportunities we enjoy here didn’t happen by accident.

They were protected. Fought for. Sacrificed for.

Memorial Day is a reminder that behind every freedom we often take for granted, there are men and women who gave everything in service to this country. People who never made it home to their families.

That’s not something I take lightly.

Especially knowing what this country has made possible for my own family.

A Small Gesture of Appreciation

At MightyMeals, we’re incredibly grateful for the veterans and active-duty military members who have served our country.

It’s one of the reasons we proudly offer a military discount year-round. It’s a small gesture, but one rooted in genuine appreciation and respect for the people who have sacrificed so much.

No discount or promotion could ever fully express that gratitude—but it’s important to us to acknowledge it in some way.

Taking a Moment to Reflect

To all who have served, and especially to those who made the ultimate sacrifice: thank you.

And to the families who continue carrying that loss every day, we honor you as well.

I hope everyone enjoys time with family and friends this Memorial Day weekend—but also takes a moment to reflect on what this day is truly about.
